What is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?

Search engine marketing, or SEM, is a form of Internet marketing that seeks to help websites by escalating their visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs). In accordance with the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, SEM methods consist of: search engine optimization (or SEO), paid inclusion and paid placement. Other sources, together with the New York Times, describe SEM as the practice of buying paid search listings. The SEM encompasses the many aspects of online marketing, counting, but not limited to SEO, PPC, social networking, etc...
